Travel Diary // New Orleans.

Hello everyone, and Happy Friday!! If you follow me over on Instagram,  then you'll already know that Stephen and I were able to slip away for a of couple days.  Stephen made Winners Circle for the second year in a row!! Woopwoop!! This year Verizon send us to celebrate in New Orleans!!  So I thought it would be fun to tell you about our experience in The Big Easy.

Stephen's parents were kind enough to travel all the way from Arkansas, (a 10 hour drive...,) to Florida, to keep our kids for us!  We left out Thursday morning after we took the kids to school, and made it there around 1 p.m. Stephen said that if I didn't have to pee every 15 minutes,  we woulda made it there a little sooner!! 🤣

With it being lunch time, we already knew that we wanted to eat somewhere in the French Quarter.   Our pastor recommended Cafe Maspero, and considering that we didn't have any other recommendations,  that's where we went.    I'm so glad we did too.  I got the calamari plate and it was so amazing, the best squid I've ever eaten!  Stephen got the Muffaletta, it was ok, most Muffalettas are basically the same everywhere.

After we ate, we went to the hotel, checked in at the front desk, then checked in with Verizon.   They had one of the ball rooms  designated for all the winners and their guests.  Stephen and I walked around for a little bit, then went upstairs.  We left for the event around 5:30 p.m. and got back around 11 p.m. There was so much that happened in that day, we were so tired by time we got back.

Check-out was at noon, which was perfect timing for finding another place to eat at in the Quarter.  Friday was WAY busier than Thursday.  I'm pretty sure it took us an hour to find a parking spot,  and the ones that we did happen to find, Stephens truck was too big to fit in the space.  As soon as I said, "let's just go somewhere else, I'm tired of this" a spot opened!! Woohoo!!  We started our journey at the Jackson Brewery,  which was more like a mall.  My goal was to find the restroom and then find coffee, which, we did!!

While we were in the fudge-candy-coffee shop, the girl behind the counter recommended a few places to try out.  One of those places was Cafe Du Monde.  Her and our pastor suggested it, so we had to go there next!  All we knew was to ask for the Beignet.  So I went thinking, this is where we're going to have lunch.  However,  when we got there, Beignet, coffee, and water was all they served!! 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 We already had coffee so we ordered the Beignet, one for each of us.  The lady brought them out and said, "that's $6, you pay now", 🙄 ok, Stephen pulled out his card, "cash only sir, no cards". 😳 uh, well, ha! "You go to ATM over there" and points to a store across the road.  Apparently we weren't the only people that didn't have cash!!  After we paid the lady she said, "ok, here your change, dont forget to tip for 2." And then we never saw her again.  🤣 The Beignet came out, and were so hot and fluffy and COVERED in powdered sugar.  I made a small joke as Stephen was biting into his, and he blew up a huge cloud of powder that left him looking like Tony Montana!! 😂 #sorrynotsorry They were so delicious though! They reminded me of funnel cakes,  only square shape.

We each had 2 Beignets and put the others in a doggy bag for later.  So then we walked from Decatur to Bourbon and everywhere in between.   At one point we were looking for a public restroom,  which there's not one.. if you ask a store they will tell you, "coffee shops or restaurants,  and you'll have to buy something".  🙄... Anyway, we found this little museum,  and the ladies there were really nice, and let us use their restrooms.   They were also telling us things to watch out for, amongst the locals. 1) Dont let them bead you, because they will expect you to pay them. She also mentioned how they get them out of garbage cans... 🤢 2) Dont carry anything in you back pockets,  because most of them have quick hands! 3) Eat at Kingfish!!  Which is exactly what we did!!  Well, we were on our way there when we had an encounter with "Dan Dan, the Shoe Cleaning Man" 🤣🤣 That's what he called himself!  He went up to Stephen and started talking about his shoes, then squirted some yellow stuff on his shoe. Stephen was like... 🙄... dude... you just put mess all over my shoe... Dan was like, "but look, I'm gonna clean it off". While im over here just laughing!! 😂 Stephen wouldn't let him clean it, so he walked around with mustard yellow stuff on his shoe!!

After we finally made it to Kongfish, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looked on the inside.  A lot of the restaurants and shops look rundown and just terrible on the inside,  but this place has definitely been renovated.  AND, their bathrooms were nice as well!!  We already knew that we were going to be heading a little further north to visit with my cousin,  so we decided to get an appitizer and split an entire.  We went with the Risotto and Kingfish Burger.  Both were so good! I could have really gotten just the Risotto and been fine!

So, once we devoured our amazing lunch, it was time to head back to car, and make our way up to Maurpas.  This would normally be the part where I'd say, "and that's our experience in New Orleans ", but OHHH NOOOO... we're not done yet.  Once we made it to Stephens truck, we noticed a shiny yellow boot, on the tire... 🤦🏼‍♀️ 🤦🏼‍♂️ We were so confused, had we stayed for too long?  There wasn't a meeter...  We called the number on the huge  bright blue sticker that was on the driver side window, turns out, we didn't pay for parking.   There were huge signs that said, PUBLIC PARKING, (that didn't have the words PAY TO PARK)  Anyway, the guy came over to remove the boot, but we had to pay 90 bucks first... 😫... Apparently we weren't the only ones that got hit, there were yellow boots all over the parking lot.  Annnddd that's where the story ends.

Have you ever been to the French Quarter? What did you think? Did you like it?  Would you go back?  What is one experience that you had while there?  I hope you guys enjoyed this Storytime!  Also, I hope this helped some of you that may be planning a trip to The Big Easy, specifically the French Quarter.  I have a couple pretty cool things going on right now, so be sure to follow me across all of my social media outlets, their listed below!  Love yall!!
