How To: Create An Outdoor Living Space

As most of you know, we have been updating our home for almost a year now! Here recently, like within the past 3 weeks, we've turned out attention to our outdoor space; specifically the porch on our pool house! We spend so much time outside, hanging by the pool, that we really felt like that area was a major eyesore.

On both sides of the pool house, there were old wood planks. On the left side some of the boards had holes in them and for the most part the whole thing had began to dry rot. Stephen went in a few weeks ago and pulled up all the boards and leveled out the ground underneath. We put out some grass seed, and while we were waiting for the grass to fill in I started to revamp the pool house porch. Which is what brings us today's topic offff, How To: Create An Outdoor Living Space!! πŸ˜ƒ  I'm sharing with you the steps that I took to create a beautiful outdoor living space! (fyi, the grass is still not all the way in.)

Create A Mood Board. Anytime I want to update, change, or rearrange a space, i will always, always, always, create a mood board! I'm a visual person so it's normally on Pinterest, but regardless, I still have to have a place to gather everything that inspires me. Pinterest is a great place to get ideas on just about everything!! πŸ˜†

Furniture. When choosing your outdoor furniture, try to keep in mind that you're probably going to have that piece or pieces for the next few years. From personal experience, a few years ago, we bought some patio furniture and it was full of bright colors. Then guess what happened? The sun bleached out the color, and made it look super old, FAST! So with that learning experience, I know that I will never invest in colorful furniture!

Pop Of Color. Picking up from the above statement, if I ever want to add color to a space, I now know to add color by using pillows or other decorative items. That way if the sun fades them, im only out a few bucks, and not a few hundred bucks!!πŸ€‘

Greenery. One of my most favorite things to incorporate in any space is flowers and plants!! I knew I wanted to add some colorful flowers, in cute planters. I found these lavender Rose Of Sharon at my local Lowes. They were already in pots, so I grabbed them, ya know, to make my life easier!!πŸ˜† I'm not good with plants, so here's to hoping I can keep them alive!

Rugs. By adding an outdoor rug, it really pulls the space together to create that outdoor "Livingroom" feel. It also adds texture and contrast which creates a welcoming environment.

Decorate. There was a fairly large area on the pool house wall that was blank. Stephen really wanted to put a huge helm there, but the only one that I could find  was too small and wouldn't fit to scale. So I opted for a huge clock instead!

I could not be more happy with how this project turned out! 😍 And I hope yall enjoyed it as well!!
