How To: Look Younger (Over 30 Fashion)

Hey y'all happy Friday!!😃 So today's post was totally inspired by.... my kids!!😅..... So they are 5, 9, & 13. And they all seem to think that me and their dad are just as old as dirt, like we were alive when the 🦖 dinosaurs 🦕 roamed the Earth! I know right, RIDICULOUS!!😂😂 Seriously though, I decided to put this post together because Lillian tells me all the time that I "look like a teenager!" So I mean, I must be doing something right by knocking 15 years off right?!!

Below I have put together a handful of things that I take into consideration when shopping for clothes. So today I'm here to help a girl out!!💁🏼‍♀️ Please keep in mind that these are not BIBLE. It's just me having a little fun by playing around with fashion, which is one of the things I'm most passionate about!

Carefully Pick Your prints. Prints are very tricky, so if in doubt, just don't do it! Large prints with bold colors do not look youthful or sophisticated. Large prints also tend to make you look larger than you are. Try to stick with smaller, not so busy, not so loud prints. Smaller scale prints can help you to look smaller and more youthful!

Ditch The Outdated Denim. Finding a good pair of denim can be hard. In our 30's or even older, you know your body better than anyone, so by now you should have a pretty good idea on what jeans look the best on you. So I completely understand when you find something that works you want to hold onto it. Just try to make yourself aware of what's "in style" at the moment. When I was a teenager Mom Jeans were not a hot ticket item, super-low rise jeans were in. Well now, 15 years later, everyone is leaning towards the Mom Jean, and I'm here for it!! After having 3 babies, I know my days of wearing super-low rise jeans will never be a thing again!!😅 I find comfort in the higher waistline. Plus its way more flattering on my body shape. Also, I don't know if yall have noticed, but flares and bells are making a huge come back, which makes me a very happy girl!!😃

Watch Out For "Boxy Styles". Some women will throw on an oversized sweater or cardigan thinking it will help cover their mid section, but ultimately its going to make you appear bigger and look like a box. It's easy to hide your shape, but try to create shape and proportion with your clothes. You can conceal your problem areas by highlighting other areas. Opt for a tunic style top, its a smidge longer but not too long to help cover the tummy,, but can still give you shape. When it comes to dresses, go for one thats more A-line, it will fit a smidge tighter up top, then flow out right under the bust. And don't underestimate the power of accessories!  Layering on a modern jacket can help you look more youthful as well. Leather moto or even denim will always be a staple when it comes to fashion!

It's all in the details! When it comes to your shoes,, you can opt for comfort without it being ugly and dated!! There are so many cute "comfort" shoes out there that are in style at the moment. With me being flat-footed, my go to comfort shoes are my white leather sneakers!! Pay attention to your sunglasses! 😎 A good pair of trendy sunnies will take your overall look up a notch, and make you look more stylish and more youthful! If you wear prescription sunglasses, invest in a pair that are classics, ( aviator / cat eye ). This way they won't make you look outdated. Earlier I mentioned accessories, more specifically jewelry. Kinda like with your sunglasses, perchase pieces of jewelry that are current. Right now thats dainty, gold / silver / mixed metals. Try to stay away from dated costume jewelry thats bold and bright.

Pick modern silhouettes. (yes everything is "modern" we're trying to look younger remember?!!😉) When it comes to outerwear, steer clear of boxy, baggy, and hugely oversized. Slightly oversized is really in right now, but not baggy!!😉 You can create a flattering silhouette without covering up your entire body. Find one thats modern AND flatters your body. Try a blazer, (my personal fave!!) they are really in right now. I'm definitely more of a black / white / neutral type person, but if you love bright colors, then get a bright colored blazer!! 😅 Just keep the rest of your outfit simple and "plain", like all black or all white. You could even opt for a monochrome look!  I love a good monochromatic look!!

Please keep in mind, you DO NOT have to go spend a ton of your hard earned 🤑 monies 🤑 to achieve a more youthful look. Shop your closest first, don't be to proud to shop at places like ROSS or TJMaxx. And don't forget to hit up the thrift shops, you may have to dig to find something, but sometimes you can find really good stuff. With all of that said, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I'll see you right here next Friday!!
