🏡 Home Update // Future Plans

Today makes exactly 1 month since we bought and moved into our new home, here in North Alabama. This house was pretty much move in ready and there's only a handful of things that need to be updated. And while we haven't started busting down walls yet, we have added small nibs here and there throughout. So buckle up, this one's a doosy!!

We will start with this first room as you walk in the front door. It's small, there's wainscoting, and there's a ceiling fan. This looks to make for a great home office space. (Which Stephen was using this as an office,  then he realized how loud the kids were, and moved his office to a room upstairs!!🤷🏼‍♀️😅) However, when we first saw the home, it was styled with a dinning table...

Just opposite of the room above, is a much bigger space with a chandelier. So you would think that this was the dinning room, right?!!😅 That's what we're using it for right now.

My thoughts!!
One space will definitely be a dinning room, and the other will definitely be a formal livingroom. So if we keep the dinning room where it is, we will need to get a different table, because this one looks odd to me in such a big room. Also I would want to change out the chandelier.

OR... we can keep the table we have, move it to the smaller space, and use the bigger space for a 2nd livingroom. If we went that route, I would move the ceiling fan to the bigger room, and get a new chandelier. 🤔... What are your thoughts on these ideas?!!

Kitchen! The kitchen is very open, which I love! We have granite countertops, very nice appliances, and a generous size pantry! HOWEVER..😅 I want to change out the granite to a lighter color, maybe close to what we put in the Hot Springs house. The inside of the fridge is tiny.. bare with my comparison here! Lol It's only as deep as my elbow! And the freezer is tiny too.. (Which is why we bought a deep freezer) I'm not diggin the green tile, so, Lord willing, that will eventually be replaced. And where the pantry is a really good size, the shelves are those wire racks that I hate with a passion.. We had them in our Florida house, and I hated them then too!😅 (last pic in this section is a gift from the president of the HOA! I thought it was very lovely!)

Eat-In Kitchen Like before, we still don't have a table for this area, so it just holds the dog bowls and the trash can!!🤷🏼‍♀️ We did have our small bar height table here, but eventually moved it to the gameroom!

Livingroom. I actually just posted this over on my home account on Instagram. Unfortunately, our current furniture doesn't work in our new house. We've ordered a new couch, so once that arrives I'll be able to share more. Until then, this is what we're working with. Normally I would want the TV over the fireplace, but as you can see, there is a huge built-in media center for that. Which ultimately is why we're having to get new furniture. That mirror will not stay, it's just there for now. And we are still unpacking boxes 🤦🏼‍♀️ so that's why there's so much empty space on the book shelves! Oh! There's also a built-in cabinet to the right of the room,, again making it very difficult to rearrange things. I would love to take that out but the wood floors go around it, which would lead to getting new flooring, and we don't want to do that.

Master Bedroom. I'm only going to show this 1 side of our bedroom, because the other side has my stuff piled up and I just can't bring myself to sharing that on the internet!!😅 There is a good reason though!! Remember me mentioning those wire racks earlier? (Pic below) Well they're in every closet. So I took them out of my closet. We are in the process of installing an organized system. So stay tuned for that!

Master Bathroom. This is probably the most dated space in the entire house. Both Stephen and I want to completey redo the whole thing. We did replace the shower head because I really don't like the ones with the hose. The toilet room makes us laugh because there's a window right there by the toilet. And Stephen's so tall he can look out the window while he's sitting there!!😂 We did get some blinds to go there, but we haven't put them up yet. Also there was no spot for the toilet paper roll, so we grabbed a freestanding one.

Upstairs! Or up the stairs really, is wall to wall carpet. I'm thinking we need to either replace the carpet with new carpet, or replace it with the same wood flooring as downstairs. I love this chandelier! (There's another one as you enter the front door!). Again, not sure if that table will stay, just there for now.

Kids Rooms. The kiddos are settling in nicely. They are slowly getting their spaces set up the way they want it! I would like to update their ceiling fans, but other than that these rooms are good how they are!

Bathrooms. When we moved in there were no shower curtain rods in the upstairs bathrooms, and we didn't have any because our Hot Springs house had the sliding doors on the tubs! Anyways, we bought 2 of the curved ones that you screw into the wall. And bless Stephens heart, he hung them way to high! 😅 The bottoms of the curtains hit right at the top of the tub! And they're screwed in, so they're staying. I'm just gonna need to look into ordering some custom shower curtains! Lillian picked out pink for their bathroom, and Gavin wasn't with us so we didn't get one for his bathroom.

Gameroom.
Our pool table sold with the other house, and this one came with this house 🎱 so it was a win win! To be honest this table is so much smoother to play on and it seems to be more level. We have a kitchenette so that's pretty cool. There's not a lot that this space needs, only a small couch and maybe a TV for our game systems. I would love to take this one wall back some, but we're betting it's a weight baring wall, so we'd have to have it checked out by a professional.

Outside. It's nice that we have a covered back deck, but the awning only shields you from the sun, not the rain... and there's a few soft spots on the actual decking. We're working on getting quotes to have it completely replaced, and probably redesigned.

Pool. While we were going through all the inspections and stuff before closing, we had ordered a new bottom piece for the pool slide. The very end of it was cracked, and we figured that would hurt pretty bad if someone slid down it...😬...

Outdoor Kitchen. We feel pretty fancy having an outdoor kitchen space, with granite countertops!🤪 There's 2 burners, a griddle, sink, drawers for storage, and a mini fridge!! However, it uses propane and we're not quite use to, so we're still using our regular charcoal grill!

Garden. As you can tell from the above pic, I'm using this space for starting my seedlings. I'm seriously considering getting a small greenhouse.🤔... I have 4 raised garden beds set up, with 2 more sitting in boxes. Hoping to get those set up this weekend 🙏🏻

Wow, I told y'all it was a long one!! I really hope yall enjoyed having a peek inside our home, and will continue to follow along as we transform this house into a home!!
