π‘ Updated House Plans
Currently the weather is π¬π¨π₯Άπ© horrible, meaning it's bad enough to call school for 2 days in a row. So I'm sitting here with my girls as they do their school work just looking around, taking notes, and making plans for a few home projects that I want to start tackling here pretty soon.
Moving to the back of the house! I love the fact that we have a covered porch, however... I really don't like the whole design AND the awning doesn't keep you dry when it rains!π€·πΌ♀️π
So if we didn't change the actual porch itself, I'd want to replace the awning so that we could enjoy lazy, rainy days! (When it warms up of course!!) Also, I'd want to bring it up higher so it didn't feel so closed in. I love that we have a fence that splits the areas. It really helps keep the dogs separate when needed. But I would open up or at least reconfigure the side of the porch facing the pool. This area could look so much nicer and not so basic if it were more open.
Our pool area is so beautiful, and it's probably the one area that I wouldn't touch! The previous homeowners did a fantastic job when designing this area! The part that I WOULD change, is the part that I have no control over... the power lines, the church across the road, and the traffic!!π Like.. if I could have this backyard in the Hot Springs Heritage House setting... could you imagine that?!!ππ€ ahh DREAMS!!!
Over on the other side of the yard is where my garden is. Like I mentioned in my 2021 Roundup Lookbook, I am still working on this area. So here's what I currently have, and then kinda what I'm aiming for. I'm thinking this project won't start until it gets warmer outside. I put down the cardboard to kill the grass with intentions of laying some type of pavers to create a beautiful pathway, I just haven't quite figured out what exactly I'm wanting to do just yet.
The house was built in 97' and most everything in the house reflects that. With that being said, I think we're really focused on a few areas to update. One of those is the stairway. This whole area is stamped with the 90's print! Lol We could just paint it, but it would just look like painted 90's style! Below was the closest I could find for a visual. I love the black railing, not so much the swirl at the end, and the crisp white walls!!
Going along with the stairway, the carpet needs to be replaced as well. It was horribly stained and torn in a few areas when we bought the house. So we've known since we moved in that it needs to be replaced. However before we replace the carpet, I would like to replace the stairway area. Honestly, I would like to not have the stairs completely covered in carpet. Our problem is, the wood trimming the stairs doesn't go all the way across... so if we were to pull the carpet there would be exposed sub floor... does that make sense?!... So, we can't do one thing until we're ready to do the other first!
In the livingroom... there's a huge built-in entertainment center, which would be great in the 90's when TV's were huge boxes. All of the outlets are exposed leaving all the wiring on show, which I despise... So we need to either figure out a way to hide the wires, or pay a crazy amount to have them professionally repositioned.
The next major project is our bathroom. It's by far the most dated space in the house. Again, we knew this when we bought the house! I want to gut the whole thing and start over. Below are a few ideas of what we're thinking. And not every detail in these photos is what I want, jut trying to piece it together to give you a better idea. The shower is tiny, so we want to extend it out a couple feet. And we were thinking of doing glass walls between the shower and tub. I've really been loving the look of the wood cabinets below. And then the flooring... I honestly don't mind the design of the flooring, I would just like to have that in tile; and black instead of blue!!
And I think that's about it for now. Those are definitely on the "priority" side of home projects. I'm not sure which will happen first or in which order, but those are my plans! What do you think? What would you do differently?!
I know I shared a few things in a post a couple weeks ago, but that was more-so of what we've already done. And since I missed my usual "6 month house update" blog post that I normally do when we move to a new place, I thought I'd share a few ideas with y'all today!
I'm really REALLY wanting to add black shutters to the front of our house. It kinda looks plain Jane, and I think it would look so much nicer with shutters. (I tried to find the closest match to our house to give the best visual.)
I would also LOVE to replace our front door to a huge 2 door system... I think if we take out the door and the window inserts we could achieve this. However, with the awning so low, I'm not sure how that would look... So maybe if we just painted the whole door and sides black, that would work too?!..π€·πΌ♀️
The side of our house, where the garage is, there are light fixtures that I'm wanting to either swap out or spray paint the existing ones black... that would be the cheaper route, but idk... Then I found this pic on Pinterest and this is pretty much what I'm wanting to do to our house. I love all the black accents. It gave this entire home a wonderful face-lift, and I love it!! (Only I'd keep the columns white!!π
