🥕 Best Veggies For Beginners
As most of you know, we relocated from North Alabama to North East Florida about a month ago. And I have to say the worst part of the move was leaving my garden behind. If you've been following along for a while, then you'll know that I have taken up gardening as a hobby. Each year, for the past 3 years, I've slowly added more and more things to my garden. And with that comes learning more and more about all things gardening!
Not that I'm an expert by any means, just from my 3 years of experience, I wanted to share what seem to be easiest things to grow. So if you're wanting to start something but you really don't know what would be worth it for a newbie, then check out my list below!
Zucchini - This was the 2nd thing I ever grew! 😅 Not knowing hardly anything about planting a garden, I planted zucchini seeds in the same raised bed as the cucumbers. At this point I knew nothing about companion planting, but I think they worked fine together, only because they had enough space between them to grow. I'm pretty sure I put yellow squash in that same bed... but I think it suffocated from the zucchini and cucumbers...
Okra - I love fried okra, so I thought I'd try to grow it, and make my own! I started these in small containers and transplanted them into a raised bed. They did amazingly!😊 And yes, I was able to make my own fried okra!
Peas & Beans - As long as you have some type of trellis, peas & beans are pretty easy to grow. I actually used a tomato cage because my local Lowes didn't have anything specifically for peas/beans! 🤷🏼♀️😅
Potatoes - This started as an experiment, and it's super easy! I took potatoes from my pantry that had started to sprout eyes, and planted them!! I was so surprised at how easy this was!
Carrots - Again, I was so surprised at easy it was to grow carrots. And I can promise you, they taste SOOOO much better than anything you'd get from a grocery store!!
Lettuce, Spinach, Kale - You may see a running theme with these last few! I knew that I wanted to grow everything to make a salad... and it turns out that these were super easy, and they grew pretty quick! I ended up growing 2 different types of lettuce, but I can't remember what they're called...😭 So, I apologize for that...
I hope this helps you in some way!
