Being Frugal For The Holidays

Hey y'all, Happy Friday!! I had full intentions of posting my November Beauty Article today, but I think this one should probably have an early mention. I know at times, it seems like there's a lot of consumerism over here, but in all actuality there's really not. With these crazy inflation prices I've had to be more creative with my content. And if you'll notice here recently,  the majority of the articles that I publish, all have me saying, "I'm featuring a piece that I received though PR."... Meaning it didn't cost me anything, but my time to style, shoot, & write about it.

What I'm trying to say is, with the spike in prices, I've really had to pull back on my spending. And now with the Holidays at our doorstep, (and birthdays....) we're having to be even more mindful; as I'm sure all of my readers are too.

A few weeks ago Stephen and I were brainstorming on things that we could realistically cut out, that would benefit us during this time. And I'm sharing them with you today, for in case there are things that you not have thought about.

Since we're trying to cut out all or most of the extra little luxuries, we have to think about what the non-negotiables are and what we're willing to let go for a couple months. Everyone's "thing" will be different. Below, I've listed a few that I'm willing to let go and then I added on a few extras; because like I said earlier, you may not have thought about it.

Press on nails.
What actually sparked this whole conversation was me saying, "I'm gonna go get my nails done. Then as Stephen and I were talking, I decided that I could probably save a few bucks by getting a nice set of press on nails. I love the Kiss nails; they're like $6, and they look like an actual manicure.  Sometimes I also will use the sticker nails from Nails Mailed.

At home pedicure.
With that, I also decided to pull out my little nail kit kaboodle, and give myself a nice pedi. I mean, I have all the tools needed to do it at home, I just rarely use it since I go to the salon.

What about my hair?..
Im sorry ladies, but honestly I can't help you here. My hair is natural blonde, so I don't have to touch up roots. I only have to tone it with a purple shampoo, and 1 bottle will last me a whole year. I very rarely go to a salon for a cut. I usually trim mine, myself.

Shop your own closet.
I know that I love to dress nice for the holidays, and sometimes that means me buying a whole new outfit. But this year, I'll be taking my own advice and shopping my closet. I'm certain that I can find something that I will love, I'll just have to take a few minutes to actually look at what I have. This is why I tell y'all all the time, ๐Ÿ—ฃ Be intentional with your purchases!!๐Ÿ˜‰ If you need inspo you can look back through my styling articles here!

Holiday menus.
Yes menus, because there are several holidays within "The Holidays" ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผ‍♀️๐Ÿ˜… When it comes to buying food, be sure that you are only buying the foods that your family will eat, and not let go to waste. For instance, neither Stephen nor myself really like turkey.. And it's not worth it for me to spend money and time prepping / cooking it for my kids, who will only eat potatoes and mac & cheese. Makes sense right?!

Opt out of parties.
Usually right after Thanksgiving, the holiday parties kick in. Just because you're invited, doesn't mean you have to go. If you know that you're gonna have to spend extra money that you really don't have, that could be used in another area, you can opt out of that one. You can pick and choose which ones you want to go to. FYI... if you are invited, and you know you're not going, please let the inviter know so that they can prepare accordingly!๐Ÿ˜‰

Cancel or postpone subscriptions.
We don't have a ton of subscriptions, but this is one area that I'm willing to let go for a few months. And that's Ipsy. I get the Ipsy Glambag Plus, it's like $30ish a month. So I have "skipped a month", for December and will do so again for January, because we'll need January as a month to "recoop" from "The Holidays"!๐Ÿ˜‚ I know we're not the only ones that do this!!

Pull out those gift cards.
Normally, I'll hold on to gift cards, save them up, and then spend them all in 1 day so that it feels like a "shopping spree"! To be honest, it's a great feeling to be able to do that every now and then. However, now we need that bit of cushion to buy those press on nails, or that beautiful silk blouse, or a bag of potatoes for the potato salad that you're supposed to bring to Grandma's Christmas dinner. Never underestimate a good gift card!!!

Use those discount codes.
If you're looking for something in particular, and there's a code available to save you extra money... USE IT. Maybe you can stretch that gift card by using a discount code! Or if someone you know has a "refer a friend" link that will save you 25%, use it!

Plan things in advance.
Not just plan, but pay! ๐Ÿค‘ Plan & pay for things in advance. We all know that we have to be mindful of spending around the holidays right?... So by you making plans ahead of time, you won't have FOMO... and feel like your life is boring. This is something that we did, well, I did!๐Ÿ˜… Back in June, I bought tickets to an event that isn't until this weekend. I knew that I wanted to go to this event, and I also knew that we probably wouldn't have the funds if I waited. So I bought them 5 months prior!

Thats all for today. Thanks for being here. I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!!!
