How I Maintain My Weight

A few weeks ago I talked about a some daily / weekly routines that I do to maintain my outward appearance. ( You can check that out here. ) But today I want to talk about what I put on the inside, that helps me maintain my overall health. 

I am one of the biggest snackers that I know.  I love ALL the junk foods.  You will usually always find me with some type of candy in my bag.  My favorite food is probably french fries... or pizza... 🙄 oh I dont know, I just love food.  But with the way foods are being processed these days it's really hard to know what's ok, and what's not.  Since I eat all the snacks, theres no doubt that I consume a considerable amount of the garbage that's passed through the FDA.  But I'm not here to get technical about what's in our food.

As a kid, I was blessed with a mom that cooked just about every night.  I remember I would always want to help her in the kitchen, so inevitably, my style of cooking reflects hers.  Which to be completely honest, Southern Cooking, it's not the most healthy.  Once I started to focus more on what my body needed and what I could live without, my cooking style shifted just a smidge.  I didn't go in ham and do a drastic lifestyle change up front,  It was a gradual process.  For example I started using real butter instead of margarine.  I started buying whole wheat bread instead of white bread.  I still dont know a ton of healthy food recipes, I just took the few that I did know, and perfected them to my taste.

Below are just a few meals that I eat several times throughout the week.  Everything listed can be purchased at Walmart. 

BREAKFAST:
Typically for breakfast I will have peanut butter on wheat toast and 2 boiled eggs.  Sometimes I will mix it up by adding fresh fruit and / or oatmeal.  If I dont have time to cook something, I will make a protein shake.  This is usually what I'll have on a Sunday morning before church!! 🤣 It is so easy to just throw in your favorite protein, some chia seeds, fruit, yogurt, or whatever your heart desires, blend it together and go!!  ( 🤔... I should do a dedicated blog post on just protein shakes!!)  Speaking of protein shakes, I have recently been introduced to Over Night Oats!  If you haven't ever tried them, you should consider it.  If I know that I have something going on the following morning, I will put one of these in the fridge before I go to bed, and its ready in the morning!! That's even easier than pulling out the blender! 😃




LUNCH:
Since lunch time is usually just me and Elly, I'll try to keep it light and simple.  I recently came across these flax seed wraps.  My cousin was visiting from Louisiana and made some turkey and cheese wraps with them, and I was blown away at how good they were.  At first I couldn't find them in any of the stores around me, which was a total bummer.  Then one day I saw them in a random place in Walmart.  I like them with deli turkey, colby jack cheese, and spinach. 😋  And the wraps are so long, I turn them sideways them I'm able to eat on 1 whole wrap throughout the day.  Somedays I'll have a can of progresso soup, then others  I will make up some tuna fish sandwiches, it adds ll really depends on how I'm feeling that day. 


DINNER:
Considering that I love to cook and I enjoy my cooking, dinner is usually the hardest meal for me.  I am slowly finding things that my kids and husband will actually eat, that are considered to be more healthy.  Below is a meal that I LOVE!  Grilled chicken, rice pilaf, and cauliflower!  This chicken has literally been a game changer for me.  It's precooked fajita chicken by the brand John Soules.  There is a Grilled Chicken kind, but the Fajita Chicken has more flavor!  Anyway, I have found myself using this in casseroles, chicken spaghetti, quesadillas, salads, and even by itself!!


SNACKS: 
I have found that if I snack on the healthy foods, I'm more likely to not snack on the unhealthy.  The only issue I had with that, was not having them easily accessible.  So I try to have a couple more healthy options in the house.  Here is what I have to snack on right now!  Some snacks do take longer to prepare than others, that's why I try to have snacks that are popable, like almonds.  Blueberries are another one that I like to have, but we're out at the moment.   I make the best fruit smoothies,  (in my opinion that is).  All it calls for is frozen fruit and cranberry juice!  Its delicious!! 😋 




I also want to throw out there, that I dont eat like this in every meal.  A lot of times i only have 1 or 2 healthy meals a day.  Like I said, I love all the junk foods.  I put creamer in my coffee, I drink soda every now and then, I want chips with my tuna sandwich, or on it really!! 🙄 DONT JUDGE!! 😂🤣  I want crinkle cut fries with my burger, steak fries with my philly cheesesteak sandwich, and waffle fries at Chick-fil-a!!  So I'm just like you when it comes to things we love to eat!  It's all about balance.  

We are entering the Fall season, which means more comfort foods; and more candy!  Heres a tip for you, if you're trying to not over indulge at Thanksgiving dinner, but you dont wanna hurt grandmas feelings by not eating her famous Coconut cake, drink a protein shake before you go in.  This will allow you to still have a couple bites of your favorite foods, but it will curb your appetite immensely.
