Creating A Safe Space // Encouragement

Hey yall Happy Friday!! Todays post is kinda random, and a bit hefty in the thinking department. I was setting up an area in my house for an Instagram pic. And while I was going through the motions of setting up this space, I was thinking about friends, relationships, people you can trust, people you can't trust, just people in general, you know, blah blah blah....

In the midst of my randomness, I created this beautiful little space in our office. When I sat down to enjoy what I had put together, I thought, wow this is amazing, and I had this overwhelming feeling of safety wash over me, (not sure if safety the right word... comforting maybe?..). Anyway, so I took everything that ran through my brain in that 30 minute time span and plugged it in here. And of course I added in ways to create the actual space.

Cut people out of your life that are negative.

First off, nobody likes a Negative Nancy. Secondly, if you're around people that are constantly complaining and just have a nasty outlook on life, then you too, will start complaining about things that you normally wouldn't complain about. I'm sure you've heard the saying, "you are what you eat", well in this case, "you become what you entertain". You DO NOT NEED THAT IN YOUR LIFE!!  Plus, most of the people that are IN your life, are not there for YOU. They are there for what YOU can give them, and what you bring to their life.. Not everyone in your life is cheering for you, and this does not exclude family. Which leads me to the next...

Keep your circle small.

This one is actually not difficult for me. I have a loud, weird, random personality and a lot of people don't know how to take me. So any time I'm around new people I cannot, under any circumstance, cannot be myself.😂 They say, "their true colors will eventually show", and that is so true. It's not that my colors are bad, their just neon! 🤣 that's the best way to describe it!! Seriously though, I've never had a lot of friends. Even in school I had a couple, and we barely talk now. As I've gotten older I've learned that having fewer people in your life is actually better for you, stress wise. That's why Stephen is my only friend!! Lol He's the only one that can handle me, and sometimes I question that!!

Make your home a place of relaxation.

When I say, create a "safe space" in your home, I mean you should create a place where you can fully be YOU. Without having to worry about the fact that your hair is nappy and your toe nails are crusty, because girlfriend we have ALL been there! Ok?!  Now for the stay at home mom, this one can be quite tricky. 'Cause  if you have kids, your home is far from "relaxing".

However, you can still have areas in your home that are designated for a time of relaxation and reflection. Just try to keep a soft, calming color scheme and dont overcrowd it with random things, keep it very minimal. You can play soft  instrumental or chill music. Lately I've been listening to "Coffee House Covers" on pandora. For the most part, its unknown artists that remake songs that we already know, just in a softer way. Turn on your essential oils diffuser that has lavender or eucalyptus in it. Personally I like to burn candles; I think it's the ambiance of the flame that i love most. Be sure to have a pen and notebook handy, you'll be surprised what comes to mind once you allow yourself to reflect.

With all of that being said I hope this has helped you in some way. Let me know down in the comment section some other things that you incorporate into your daily life or routine that help you feel mentally safe! Wishing yall a fabulous weekend!! 👋🏻
