How To Stay Productive When You Work From Home

A few weeks ago in a post, I mentioned that I had set up a weekly schedule for my blog. Afterwards, I got a few questions asking about how I stay productive, considering that I work from home. 🏡 I wanted to be completely transparent, so I put together a few things that I, myself, am still working on. And I thought it might be helpful for you as well, because let's face it, we're all a work in progress.

Now, these are not necessarily the things that "I do", that keep me productive. It's more of bad habits that I have to avoid, in order to stay productive! These are the habits that I have pinpointed in myself, which are the specific areas that I have to work on every single day. You may have some of the same habits as me, or you may have different ones that I don't have. The point is to figure out exactly what's causing you to be unproductive, and try to find ways to work around that.

- Easily Distracted -

I remember as a kid, when I was supposed to be cleaning I would fall down this rabbit hole into an abyss of my moms CD collection, which was not what I was supposed to be doing at all. She would always say, "you get sidetracked too easily". I didn't really think too much about it then, but now as an adult, she was absolutely right. No matter what I'm doing, I always find myself doing something else. For instance, on the days that I have set aside to write, I get this huge kick in the behind to clean. And when I'm up to my eyeballs in laundry, I'll start organizing under my bathroom sink. So not staying focused is probably my number one reason for not being productive. Which leads to my second reason for being unproductive.

- Poor Time Management Skills -

Stephen would more than likely say that this is my number one reason for being unproductive.  But in reality, it can be a bit tricky for the stay at home mom. No matter what project you have going on at the time, you will always have to drop what you're doing to help with whatever their doing at the time! 🤷🏼‍♀️ What really helps me with managing my time is by writing down what needs to be done. I've said numerous times before, if I don't write it down, 🙅🏼‍♀️it won't get done! I have notebooks, journals, and planners galore! Now, if I could learn to write out a grocery list!... 🤔... 😂 But seriously, I have a notebook for blog post ideas; a planner for when bills are due; a seperate planner for when certain posts need to go live, blah, blah, blah.... So try to find a planner that fits your needs and utilize it!

- Unplug -

Another thing that goes right along with, "poor time management skills", and what really takes up a lot of your time, is your phone, or social media to be more specific. I understand that our phones are an extremely large part of our daily lives. Some things have to be done on a computer, but 98% of what I do, is done on my phone. Social media is my job. So what helps me with that is, if I'm sitting down to type out a post, I have to turn off all notifications. Otherwise, I'm either going to check them or I'm constantly swiping them off my screen. With notifications turned off you are more likely to work more efficiently and you won't be tempted to waste time scrolling through Instagram for hours on end.😉👍🏻✌🏻

- You're Inconsistent -

Out of all of these reasons, this is one that I am proud to say that I have overcome. In the beginning of my blogging career, I was VERY inconsistent, hardly ever posted anything. However, after time, research, and experience, I have become extremely consistent. Which is one of the reasons that I'm able to monetize my blog and social media outlets. Ya'll know good and well, you will make time for what is important to you. Same for me! If there's something that I really want to do, I make time for it, i put forth the effort, and I do it whole heartedly.

Do you fit in with any of these categories? Which one? What are some things that you have to work on, in order to be more productive? Let's talk in the comments. You may have something figured out, that others need! 😃 I really hope you have learned from my experiences and that this advice helps you to be more productive. As always, thanks for stopping by, I appreciate you!!
