Simple Ways To Freshen Up Your Home // Home Decor
The other day I was sitting in my living room and I noticed how everything seemed so dark. Then I realized that it was just that, it was DARK! It all screamed Fall and Winter. The few throw pillows that we have are canvas and burlap. Our accent throw blanket is navy blue, and the fact that our couches are dark gray, the entire space felt heavy. With it being May our house just didn't feel like springtime. So the other day I made my way to TJMaxx to find a few pieces of decor, that will help our space feel a little bit more fresh and springlike!
Before I went I looked around the room, I started writing down what I wanted to add, remove, or change out. The list below are a few ideas I came up with, and I thought y'all might pull some inspiration from it, for your own home.
1. Swap out the dark, heavy fabrics, for light and flowy while still being snuggly!! 🤗 Adding whites and creams to your space is definitely going to lighten things up, but if you'd rather, you can add pops of color with pillows and throws. Curtains and rugs are probably going to be the most expensive of all the fabrics. However, if you can make that splurge just one time, then you could just rotate them seasonally. Me personally, I love a good white or cream rug, but with a dog and 3 kiddos it gets nasty fast. So I usually opt for the cheap $30 rugs at Walmart! lighter colors will help the place feel more open, light and airy.
2. Change the scent! It seems like companies are creating new scents almost daily. So if your nose can handle it, go sniffing around some of your favorite stores! Everyone is different, so depending on what you prefer, whether it be: air fresheners, candles, essential oils, wax melts, or plug-ins, find what you like and put it all over your house!! I found a few candles at TJMaxx that I really liked. One was a tropical scent and the other was more of a fresh scent, like laundry detergent!
3. Declutter, Declutter, Declutter!! Organizer bends, shelves, cabinets, baskets and more BASKETS!!! Especially the wicker baskets. You can store things in them, in plain sight! I like to roll up my throw blankets and stand them up, so that its pleasing to the eye. I'm pretty sure I got that from my mom. She would roll up for bath towels and stick them in a basket beside her bathtub! When everything is put away, the whole entire space just feels fresh and clean!
4. Go green! Or at least fake it til you make it! By adding greenery to a space, whether it's real or fake, flowers and plants really help freshen up an area. And if they're real it actually gives you fresher air to breathe! I love having fresh flowers in my house, even if I have to buy them myself. However, plants are no bueno...🙅🏼♀️ For the life of me, I cannot keep plants alive!! So I buy them!! 🤷🏼♀️
5. Mix up your decor! Picture frames, hanging canvases, knickknacks. The least expensive way to change up your decor is by using spray paint. Yes, spray paint is your friend!! I have literally bought something brand new with the intentions of painting it a different color. I found these little lime green plastic buckets that resembled a tin barrel at Dollar Tree. So I painted it a rosey bronze color, and it looked like something that you would find at Hobby Lobby!! Also, don't forget about mirrors. Mirrors are great for making a space feel more open and airy.
