My Day In Jacksonville

For the past week my inlaws have been visiting with us. They last time we saw them was last Christmas,  in the Alabama house. Stephen's dad was born and raised in Florida. As a kid he would spend his weekends at his grandmother's house in Jacksonville, and then as a young adult, he served in the U.S. Navy for years, and was stationed in Jacksonville. It's also where Stephen's parents met! So they pretty well know their way around the area. While Stephen was at work and the kids were in school, Lawrence & Christine chauffeured me around some places in Jacksonville that I probably would have never went on my own.

Went through the downtown area and looped through a more historical residential area. The old houses were so beautiful,  and seemed to have been in pretty good shape. There was a mixture of Colonial and Spanish style homes. I think it's so beautiful how the city keeps palm trees throughout. We drove by the old Skinners Dairy Milk House. (I failed to get a pic of that, so I found 1 on Google.) As we were headed towards the bridge, I recognized where we were. On Independence Day we went to see the fireworks in Downtown Jacksonville, right on the St. John's River. (Photo from Google).

Had lunch in Mayport, at a restaurant on the water called Ssfe Harbor. I went with a fried Mahi-Mahi basket. I had never had Mahi prepared that way, but it was really good! The fries had a great tasting seasoning, and the hush-puppies were a perfect blend of sweetness and onion! Lawrence & Christine had the shrimp basket. The inside had nice updates, very fitting for a seafood cafe on the water!😅 But yall know, if I'm eating anywhere on the water, I want to sit outside!
Afterwards, we went across the road to the Safe Harbor Seafood Market.  The only seafood markets that I've ever been in were little hole in the wall type places, but I was so surprised at how nice this seafood market was. Like, I don't know how to explain it, so I took a few pics (below). Lawrence helped guide me with what type of crab & shrimp to get!🤷🏼‍♀️😂 We had a good 40 minute drive back home, so I got one of those hot/cold bags, and they packed it with ice! Which I thought was just so nice!! (FYI... the crab and shrimp that I cooked that night were both delicious!!🤤)

We took the Mayport Ferry across the St. John's River, before heading home! I snagged a couple pics from Google to give you a better visual of the ferry.

We didn't spend the whole day driving around, because I had to scoop my kids up from school, but we still saw a lot for the time that was available. We have also planned to spend a day in Mount Dora, which I'm super excited about!😃  I'm going to vlog that, so be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel so you don't miss it!!
