What I Learned From My 5 Year Old This Week
Surely I'm not alone in this, but sometimes I feel like my kids are raising me, instead of the other way around. Ya know?! While we're over here thinking we're runnin this and in control... 🙄... haha yeah right!! They constantly prove to me that I'm not runnin anything.
There is a song that's been playing on Air1 and sometimes the worship team will sing it on Sunday mornings. It goes something like this, "Miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness; my God, that is who you are". Well my 5 year old, EllyKay, has been singing it over and over and over. And every time she sings it, I just get so tickled because she sings it with so much passion in her voice, but with the wrong words. Sometimes it's hard for me to correct my kids on things like that only because I find it funny.
She sings it like this, "Beautiful worker, finders keepers, my God, that is who you are". I told Stephen about it, and how I thought it was just the cutest thing ever, and how it makes me smile every time I hear it.
The other day I found myself singing that song in her words, and God started speaking to me about how she wasn't singing it wrong. And how those are the words that He gave her to sing. He said, "She is my singing daughter, who loves to sing my praises." That shattered 💔 me and my carnal thinking.
She wasn't singing it wrong, she was singing what she heard from God! I was in the wrong for seeing it through my natural eyes and not my spiritual eyes. Now I don't giggle, I cry at her reckless abandonment in the Lord.
Y'all, our kids pay attention. The have their own spirit man. They have their own supernatural vision. They have their own supernatural hearing. I am by no means the perfect parent nor have I "arrived". But how dare we, as parents, interfere with their relationship with the Father?!.. Our kids are not ours to keep forever. We only get them long enough to teach them the ways of the Lord, and to help them find their calling and their destiny.
