🏠 How To Update Your Home On A Budget 🏠

Hey yall whats up?!! The other day I was editing a House Update video for my YouTube channel, and was so inspired to put this blog post together, for you! The home that Stephen and I are currently in, is the 3rd property that we've bought together. Updating our first home was definitely where a lot of learning and experimenting came into play.

Moving forward from there, we've only continued to learn new and different things, different techniques, different ways of doing things, different little tricks of the trade. And where I'm nowhere near a professional, nor am I an expert in home design, I do have 11 years of being a homeowner / DIYer under my belt!! So today I am here to help out someone who may not know where to begin on a home update!

1. First things first; Make A Plan. Without organization, there is chaos. So when it comes to updating your space, whether it be a room or the entire house, it is so important to plan out what you've invisioned your space to look like. You can start a pin board on Pinterest, make your own vision board with magazine cut outs, or simply write down what you're wanting!! This will help you in creating the feeling and style that you're going for.

2. Set A Budget! Everyone has a budget. Some budgets may be more or less than others, but regardless everyone has a budget. Even if its only $100, (yes, you can update a space for $100)  Once you figure that out, go back to your pins so that you can see how much money you're going to allocate to which area. It's up to you to decide what's priority and what's not.

3. Save Your Coin. If your plan and your budget don't match, then save for a while. I'll tell you from experience, do not settle! If you're hell bent on getting a new couch, and you've found THE ONE you want, don't settle for something else just because its cheaper. Save your money sister. Settling will cost you more in the long run. If that sofa is cheaper, it's probably because it's made from a cheaper material, which will ware out quicker and need to be replaced sooner than if you had just saved for a little while longer.

4. Do What You Can, Yourself. I'll be the first to tell you, if I can do it myself, you better believe I'm going to do it myself!! Now, I do know my limits, and will not overstep them. Recently we've had to bring some guys in to do some electrical work, because I KNOW that I cannot work with electricity. For one, I don't know anything about wiring, and two, I don't wanna die from electrocution!!😅 So if you can do it yourself, do it. Or if you're really close with someone who can help you, ask for help. The Hommie Hookup will save you a lot!!

5. Another way to save money on an update, is to upgrade something that you already have. Like with us right now, we've changed a lot of stuff in our kitchen update. We have a stove that went in a bar. NOW we need a free standing stove. So, we're selling our current stove, and will apply those funds to a new stove! Make sense?!! 🤑

I really hope that my experiences have helped someone in their home updating journey! Thank you for being here, and don't forget to share with someone who may need a little help!!
