My Livingroom Makeover

Hey y'all, Happy Friday!!😃 I am so excited  about today's post, and that's because I'm completely finished updating and styling our livingroom!!😃🎉🙃 This has been such a long time coming, and I am so happy with the way it turned out. And y'all know me, I have to share all the details!!

For the most part all of my readers already know the back story on our home, but for any new comers, I'll briefly go over the highpoints. A little over a year ago, my husband and I bought a 1978 Mini Mansion that had not been updated since it was built. We have been working for over a year, (AND WE'RE STILL NOT DONE), to update the entire place. I have done my best with documenting the process, (if you want to see from the very beginning go check out my YouTube channel Krystal With A K).

We are finally to a point where we can really dive into actually decorating the rooms. Which, is my favorite part!🤗 I don't have very many "before" pics, only the ones from before we moved in. Below is what the livingroom looked like when we bought the place...

...hideous right?!.... And believe it or not, that tile is marble tile, its just not very pretty. All of the trim, baseboards, stair banister, thats not natural wood, its all painted in a golden brown color. The walls in this room are not that bad, at least its not covered in wallpaper!

This was the first room that I started working on, only because it was the easiest. It probably took all of a weekend to get it all painted.... twice.... The first time I painted it, it was a light gray that was too cool toned, and pulled a lot of blue, and that wasn't what I wanted at all. So I ended up with the Valspar Ultra Satin in Requisite Gray. It's a smidge darker gray than I originally wanted, but it's definitely more of a neutral gray, making it easier to work with. (Plus I really didn't want to repaint for a third time).

It took a little longer for me to get the courage to actually paint the fireplace. First off, there was a huge mantle that was built into the brick, so I had to wait on Stephen to get it taken out. And secondly, I was terrified of what it might look like, afterwards, and there wouldbe no going back... I spent a lot of time on Pinterest seeing everyone else's before and afters!!😅 After I finally just did it, I was like, dang I should've done this sooner! It turned out so good! I used Valspar Ultra Flat in Summer Gray!

I had originally wanted to paint all of it, but after that first coat having the mortar and the little knicks show through under it, I just couldn't bring myself to add another coat. It was perfect! I did go ahead and paint the inside of the wood storage black to match the black on the inside of the actual fire pit area (don't know the exact term for that!!)

We really wanted to mout the TV, but we had never dealt with brick before and we would need an electrician to move the wires. So it stayed a blank canvas for a few months. Our electrician was able to move the outlet behind the TV, and also run the satellite wires and receiver box behind it as well to leave the area clean and clear from cluttered up wires!

I found a chunky, more modern mantle on Wayfair.... (before all the controversy took place...) It took Stephen a couple months to finally get that up, but he did, and it looks awesome!! As soon as it was mounted, I pulled a few pieces from around the house to style it up just a little.  The holes were from the braces from the old mantle, and the outlet that got moved behind the TV. Our electrician gave us 2 bricks to fill them in with. We bought some "instant mortar" at Lowes, filled in around the brick, then painted it to match the rest. WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!!😍

Another thing that really helped update the room was installing new laminate wood flooring. (Which was by far the most expensive part.) They really grounded the space and gave it a more "homey" feel. Stephen was leaning more to the gray / ashy tone flooring, but I think the darker flooring brings warmth into the room, making it more of a traditional / rustic feel! I like the gray tones, but I really feel like they're more of a "trend" that won't last too much longer. I wanted to put something in that is more on the timeless, classic side.

Over the past few months I've had a lot of fun finding new pieces to fill the space and just playing around with the whole look of the room. I am so happy with the entire space. There's a perfect balance of modern with rustic touches! I hope y'all have enjoyed todays post, and maybe sparked some inspiration for your own space!!
