House Hunting 🏠 Jacksonville, FL
Hey Fam!! I know y'all really enjoyed seeing our house hunting journey when we moved to Alabama, so I thought I'd share our latest house hunting journey here in 🌴Jacksonville, FL! I knew I wanted to put this together for y'all so I took notes along the way, and will share in the order that we viewed the homes.
Backstory... Back in May, we made an impromptu 9 hour trip, to look at houses 🏘 We knew that we were about to close on our Alabama home on May 20th. So the night bafore, May 19th, literally at like 10:00p.m.; a house hit the market that I was just smitten with. And I knew the Florida market was insane, and that this house would not last long... So I text our realtor to see if she could set up a few showings for Saturday., which of course she did a phenomenal job!
Wish List: When you're purchasing a home it's very important to figure out what you want AND what you don't want in a home. I'm like most people who are looking for a new home; I'd like it to be updated, we need either 4 bedrooms & an office, or 5 bedrooms so that 1 can be used as an office (Stephen works from home). At least 2-3 bathrooms... you know, the basic stuff. But my #1 non-negotiable is an in-ground swimming pool. From there, things are pretty much preferences. I prefer high ceilings. If it has 2 stories then I prefer to have the master on the main level. I prefer to have side entry parking. I prefer to have a couple acres... The list goes on & on, so I'll stop there and spare your brain!!😂 However, the preferences are not necessarily deal breakers. Keeping that in mind, here are the house that we looked at that weekend.

This is the house that made us take the trip!!😍 It was beautifully updated. Sat on an acre and a half of land. This house was on the smaller side, so there was no home office. The sellers were using the smallest room as an office. So here we would have to put the girls in a room to share.

This house seemed to have everything we needed/wanted and more! The kitchen looked very similar to our Alabama kitchen, which also opened up to the livingroom. All the bedrooms were down stairs. And upstairs...😍 There was a massive game room area. 1 area had a pool table set up with a TV on the wall. The next step up was a movie room, with huge oversized recliners and screen! Then there was another flex space on the other side, the sellers were using that as an in home gym. The pool was a great size!

This home was the newest of all the other homes, being built in 2018. In this particular neighborhood all the homes looks almost identical. The livingroom and kitchen were all open and the seller did a fantastic job decorating!😍 All of the bedrooms were upstairs, including a huge loft area that they were using as a play room... (We all know a pool table would go in this spot!!😅). The pool area was nice, but I did notice that the houses were literally right on top of one another, meaning that I wouldn't be able to lay our comfortably in my own back yard.. so that was a bummer.

This home was a little older, and it showed. Which, I'm not scared to get my hands dirty, so that wasn't a big deal to me at all. The lot size was half an acre so I would have space to put my garden beds!! The Home office was great, it had a nice built in cabinet area with a spot for Stephens files and printer. The master is on the main level, and the kids rooms upstairs!!

This house was added to the list last minute. The sellers were having an open house so it fit the schedule perfectly! This house was the oldest of the bunch, being built in 1997, but you couldn't tell. The sellers did a phenomenal job updating this house. I love how they blended the clean white lines in with the rustic touches.
The kitchen has a huge marble countertop island with spaces to sit, and the appliances are all new as well. The master and 2 other bedrooms, (the girls rooms), are on the 1st floor, while the 4th (Gavins room) is upstairs, along with a full bathroom and a huge walkin closet, making that perfect for any teenager. The master suite is truly a suite! The bedroom is a nice size with 3 huge windows looking over the pool. In the bathroom, the bathtub is a deep freestanding clawfoot tub (not a cool antique one, but still cool nonetheless!). The shower is nice and open, which Stephen will appreciate not hitting his elbows!!😅 Heading outside!😍🤗🥰 The pool is not the biggest we've ever had, BUT the serenity and QUIETNESS that this backyard gives is amazing!! And we have palm trees!!!🌴🌴🌴
If you haven't guessed it yet, this is the home we went with!! It did take a little longer than normal to get in it, that's because the house had tenants. So that was frustrating, but we made weekly drive by visits just to look at it, and scope out the neighborhood! We closed on Wednesday, July 13th, but couldn't stay the night because our belongings didn't get here til the next day..💔😭 We tackled a lot of unpacking yesterday, but still have tons to go through.
This home is almost half the size of our Alabama home, so we're going to have to hone in on things that we want to keep, and sell / donate the rest. We are so excited to FINALLY be in our new Florida home!!
